The Maryland AIT Checklist
Every step from deciding on the career to holding your LNHA license, in order, on one page. Print it, check things off, and email hello@aitcourse.com if you get stuck — you’ll get a working Maryland administrator, not a sales team.
Phase 1 · Before you apply
- Read the current requirements from the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators (education and experience criteria)
- Confirm your degree meets the Board’s education requirement
- Talk to at least one working administrator about the day-to-day reality of the job
- Identify a facility and a certified preceptor willing to sponsor your AIT program
Phase 2 · Your AIT program
- Submit your AIT application to the Board and register with your preceptor
- Enroll in the required 100-hour core of knowledge course (self-paced, 12-month window)
- Order the textbook — The Principles of Health Care Administration by Joseph Townsend (Amazon or mail order)
- Plan your supervised training hours across every department of the facility
- Complete your essay assignments and the full 100 hours
Phase 3 · Exams and license
- Study for the federal NAB exam — NHA Study Center has 1,070+ practice questions and a mock-exam mode
- Sit for the national NAB examination
- Sit for the Maryland state exam
- Apply to the Board for your license
- Set up your continuing-education plan to keep the license current
